FIRST SHIFT- Programme

More than a job. It’s your launch pad.

No experience? No references? Gaps in your resume? That’s exactly who First Shift is for.

First Shift is a programme from In-Tune Support Services for people with disability who are ready to take the first step into work. It starts behind the counter of our coffee van, in a real barista job with a real wage, and it doesn’t end there.

How it works

  1. Get ready. Build your skills and confidence one-on-one or in a small group, at your own pace. You move on when you’ve reached your milestones.

  2. Get trained. Barista training, a First Aid certificate and more.

  3. Get interviewed. A real interview with real feedback. Not successful this time? Work on the feedback and go again.

  4. Get hired. Receive your job offer and complete your induction in the van.

  5. Get paid. Three months of real work and real wages, with your mentor alongside you. They prompt and guide, but they don’t do it for you.

  6. Get going: Future Discovery. In your final month, your mentor helps you explore your purpose, your goals and your next job, so your next step is lined up before your shift ends.

You’ll walk away with
Real work history · A reference · Barista and First Aid certificates · Customer service, cash handling and stock skills · Confidence · A plan for what’s next

What happens after you register?
A team member will get in touch for a relaxed chat about you, your goals and whether First Shift is the right fit. Registering doesn’t lock you into anything.

Need help filling this in?
A parent, carer, support coordinator or support worker is welcome to help you or fill it in with you.
